Everyone welcome, from complete beginner to advanced students – our experienced teachers will cater for everyone. The Open Class is the best one to start with for your first class at YogaBellingen .
In the YogaSynergy method, each posture is taught with simple through to complex versions, enabling you to vary the intensity of your practice. We encourage you to practice responsively and to be in the present moment, choosing which version of the posture is appropriate to you on the day – this can change from day to day.
Emphasis is on balancing strength and flexibility, relaxation, correct breathing and flow, to increase your confidence and lower stress.
Our Open class follows a progressive 9 week program. In this program we focus on one of the 5 Yoga Synergy sequences (Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Ether).
It doesn’t matter what part of the 9 weeks you join in. Each week focusses on different aspects of the practice: alignment, anatomical safety, flow and adjustment by our experienced teachers, culminating in a dynamic, flowing, meditative practice.
These classes are great for cultivating your own practice and understanding of yoga. They are safe, fun and give you a cardiovascular workout. At the same time, use of balancing pranayama (breathing) and meditation, means you are able to go deeper into postures, and reconnect to your true essential nature.
Suitable for: Anyone and everyone – no experience required but advanced practitioners will have a good practice. We recommend if you have never tried Yoga Synergy method to start with these classes. Pregnant women under 30 weeks are welcome to attend this class.
Yoga practice during pregnancy creates a sense of well-being and helps prepare a mother’s body for the birth of her child.

A class where the focus is deep relaxation. Most of us have too much stress and tension in our mind body and breath. This class is an opportunity to let some of that go and begin to find a deep start of peace and contentment
Slow, simple flowing movements, relaxing breath practices , blissful meditation and deep relaxation
Emphasis is on grounding down, slowing down, and self-nurturing. Working to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, bringing the body and mind into a calm, relaxed yet alert disposition.
Suitable for .: everyone
The birds are singing, the sun is rising…..the best time to do yoga and begin to develop a regular and committed practice.
This class includes just a little more then our OPEN class. The opportunity to begin to learn to work with inversions such as handstand and headstand and some more complex variations of postures.
However, being in a more advanced class is not about doing more fancy postures. Anyone is welcome as long as you are able to leave your ego at the door and do simpler versions of postures when its appropriate for you.
Over our 9 week program you will learn with a group of committed yogi’s and progress towards an uplifting flowing practice to music in the final class.
Dynamic Flow Yoga Practice
A dynamic meditative way to begin your day
This class follows the Wednesday morning Dynamic class practice of that week in silence and sometimes to music . Your teacher will indicate when to change postures with a simple click sound and visual instruction (and if needed some minimal verbal guidance), so it’s a good idea if you’ve come to a at least one class during the week before coming along – but if you haven’t that’s fine, all you need is a fun and playful attitude and to be able to practice intelligently and responsively.
This class allows you to go more inward and really start to make the practice your own- in a supportive inspiring environment
This is a beautiful link between instructed classes and your own home practice.
Suitable for: Practitioners who enjoy dynamic group energy, and want the opportunity to have a meditative blissful yoga experience.

Learn a more challenging series of postures and advance your practice in an energising group environment.
Our Progressive class is the most dynamic class on our timetable. Not recommended for brand new beginners but those with a more regular practice . Familiarity with the YogaSynergy style is a pre requisite for this class.
Within the structure of our 9 week sequences you will also work on inversions such as handstands and headstands, deeper backbends and more complex , challenging variations of postures , pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation.
Yoga helps to develop strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness, increase energy, and enhance the ability to deal with stress.
When students undertake a more regular practice, it’s important they know how to respond to the body as it is in the moment, and not be attached to where they would like it to be in the future or where it was in the past. In this way, students learn to generate energy rather than block it, with the focus on meditative flow, to ultimately create a practice that gives the best benefits long term.
We also recommend committing to coming to at least one other class per week to fully benefit from the classes progressive nature.
YogaSynergy 5 Elements
Simon Borg Olivier & Bianca Machliss developed the Yoga Synergy sequences together, over a 20 year period. The Yoga Synergy sequences were named in honour of the pancha mahabhuta (5 Great Elements) of Hinduism and Ayurveda that are believed to make up all of creation, including the human body – which, upon death, dissolves into these five elements of nature, thereby balancing the cycle of nature set in motion by the creative force of the universe.
Each of the five elements is associated with one of the five senses, and acts as the gross medium for the experience of sensations. According to Hindu thought, the basest element, Earth (prithvi, kshiti or bhūmi) was created using all the other elements and thus can be perceived by all five senses – hearing, touch, taste, smell, and sight. The next element, Water (aap or jala), has no odor but can be seen, tasted, heard, and felt. Next comes Fire (tejas or agni), which can be seen, heard and felt. Air (vaayu,marut or pavan ) can be heard and felt. Ether (akasha) is the medium of sound but is inaccessible to all other senses. Hindus believe that the universal creative force usedakasha, the most “subtle” element, to create the other four traditional elements; each element created is in turn used to create the next, each less subtle than the last.
Earth is the first of the 5 sequences, and is usually practiced at the beginning of the year after the holiday season to firmly put our feet back on the ground. Summer is hot and the practice needs to be responsive to this by being calm and cooling. The intention with which we practice this sequence is to set the foundations for the year, to create a steady mind and regular practice, the beginning of the advancement towards a long-term, stable practice.
Water is the second of the 5 sequences – the year is underway, routine established, the weather cooling down, but still comfortable. Water is the binding element, the conductor of all the other elements, necessary for survival. Our blood, lymph and other fluids move between our cells and through our vessels, bringing energy, carrying away wastes, regulating temperature, bringing disease fighters, and carrying hormonal information from one area to another. The water sequence practice boosts our immune system in preparation for the winter. The intention with which we practice the water sequence is to bring about change through fluid movement.
Fire is the third of the 5 sequences, designed to be a heating dynamic energizing practice during the cold winter months. Fire is the transformative element. It is form without substance, and the engine of all processes. According to Ayurveda, the location of Fire in the body is the small intestine. Within our bodies, the fire or energy binds the atoms together. Fire transforms food into energy. It creates the impulses of nervous reactions, our feelings, and even our thought processes. The intention with which we practice this sequence is to generate the internal fire, to boost immunity and maintain vitality through the coolness of winter.
Air is the fourth of the 5 sequences, designed to lighten the body and spirit as we move out of the winter and into the spring. In Ayurvedicterms, Air (Vaayu ), the wind, is “backdrop” of our environment (the surroundings that we may not always notice). Air is the second lightest element next to ether, in that we can perceive it both visually, and tactilely (in tree branches moving in the wind or in the feel of it on our skin). The intention with which we practice this sequence is to move the stale energy of winter, and bring a lightness to the being, increasing mobility and movement through all our systems.
Ether is the last of the 5 sequences and is usually practiced at the time of year when the summer is starting again, but the year is ending, so there is much general exhaustion. Ether is the space in which everything happens. It is the field that is simultaneously the source of all matter and the space in which it exists. In Ayurvedic terms, Ether (Akasha) means “space” or “emptiness” and is the empty space between atoms. As we know from quantum physics, matter is much less solid than it appears, and is mostly composed of empty space. Ether also corresponds to what many call the undifferentiated cosmic force, the unified field, or the one mind. One characteristic of Ether is sound or vibration; its main characteristic is lack of resistance. It is the lightest of the elements. The intention with which we practice this sequence is to maintain a sense of balance and calm, to unify and energize the body mind and spirit, allowing our being to smoothly transition to the end of the year.
